Our hotel
The three-star Hotel Varmahlíð is located right by the Ring Road, National Road No. 1. The hotel's excellent facilities include 19 rooms which can accommodate up to 38 people at once.
Arriving guests are received by the hotel manager, Svanhildur Pálsdóttir, and the rest of the staff who work to uphold the hotel's reputation of fine service and hospitality. A home-style breakfast buffet awaits overnight guests every morning, while in the summer season the restaurant offers an evening á la carte menu for guests and passers-by alike.
Hotel Varmahlíð is very conveniently situated for those who are travelling on the highland road over Kjölur, whether before starting the journey from North Iceland or after crossing the highlands from the south.
You can access our wireless Internet in the reception, lounge and restaurant areas of the hotel, or utilise the guest computer, also connected to the Internet. Our restaurant room seats about 80 people comfortably and is particularly suitable for celebrations, meetings and small conferences.
Varmahlíð village
The village of Varmahlíð is situated in the heart of Skagafjörður valley, North Iceland. Since the village lies right on Iceland's Ring Road, No. 1, it only takes about 3.5 hours to get there from Reykjavík, or about one hour from Akureyri. Varmahlíð provides a swimming pool, campground, shops and information centre. The forest paths in the woods up on Reykjarhóll hill are only a five-minute walk from the hotel.
The village environs
A range of recreational opportunities are offered in the area around Varmahlíð, including river rafting, hiking trails and horse rides as well as equestrian displays. There are a number of exhibitions and museums, including the well-known museum in the old turf house at Glaumbær.
